DBE in Tennessee Annual Christmas Tea

The 2018 Christmas Tea was once again held at St Thomas the Apostle Church in Lenoir City on December at 1.00pm. Our thanks go to them for a splendid venue.

This year we opened the doors at 12.30 to allow our guests to have time to browse the vendors stalls before the tea began.

This year was a record breaker with 225 guests enjoying delicious food and tea, as usual the food was all made and prepared by the DBE ladies and was a splendid display of creativity.

After the opening address the DBE Ladies descended on the tables with pots of piping hot British Tea and plates of pastries, cakes, sausage rolls, Scotch Eggs and various small bites and sandwiches. Soon the hall was buzzing with chatter and sounds of tea cups chinking.

During the Tea we were privileged to have the Madrigal Singers from Farragut High School to entertain us with songs and dancing from medieval times. The Highlight of their performance was on the last song they came down among the guests and sang once again. This delighted the ladies.

We then started the first round of our Raffle Prize Drawing. This year the profits from the Raffle Draw are to be donated to California Wildfire victims support. Around half of the prizes were very kindly donated by our vendors. Thank you to each and every one of you.

Diane then introduced Chico’s store in Turkey Creek who started the fashion show. Once again the models were drawn from the ladies of the DBE in Tennessee. This is a very popular event with our guests and Chico’s displayed some beautiful clothes. Thanks to them.

We then started the second  round of our Raffle Prize Drawing after which Diane drew the lucky winners for the Door Prizes.

The tea was wrapped up in the traditional manner with all the ladies of the DBE joining  together to sing “We Wish you a Merry Christmas”.

After this successful tea and if you are reading this and wish to come along next year get your orders for tickets in early to avoid disappointment.

2018 Well there it was again, that time of the year!

The Daughters of the British Empire in Tennessee Annual Christmas Tea. For those of you who have never attended this event. This is a traditional High Tea served by the ladies of the two Tennessee Chapters and is always a huge treat.

The event started at 1.00pm on Saturday 6th December on a rainy cold day. The weather did not deter the ladies however and they all looked resplendent in their beautiful dresses and hats.

The opening address was once again given by Diane Jones the Tennessee State President who welcomed the guests to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Lenoir City.

Then the Ladies descended on the guests with pots of steaming hot tea and plates of Pastries, Sausage Rolls, Scotch Eggs and Cakes of many descriptions, all baked by hand by the members of the DBE in Tennessee.

During the Tea some members of the Choir of the University of Tennessee serenaded the ladies with Christmas Carols.
After this, the ever popular fashion show by Chicos took place with ladies for the DBE taking the part of models.

There was the annual Raffle and Gift Drawing which has always proved to be very popular. Some of the prizes being donated by a few of the Vendors at this year’s event as well as by DBE members themselves.

Then Phil Perkins took the stage dressed in his traditional Scottish Garb complete with Kilt and Sporran. Phil recited his version of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” named “Twas Three Weeks Before Christmas”. This was very well received by all.
The Event ended in the usual singing of “We wish you a Merry Christmas” by all the ladies of the DBE.

So to those of my readers who have not attended this wonderful event get in quickly next year and reserve your ticket. Details of dates will be published on this website.
