Belvedere Castle Central Park

Designed by Central Park co-designer Calvert Vaux and architect Jacob Wrey Mould, the structure and adjacent terraces and pavilions were all called “the Belvedere,” which means “beautiful view” in Italian. The entire complex, completed in 1872, was designed as a place from which to enjoy views of the surrounding landscape; the building originally had no windows or doors, as it was intended as an open-air lookout tower. Constructed out of Manhattan schist, the building was also designed as a focal point in the landscape, drawing visitors to it. It appears as if it emerges from the dramatic Vista Rock on which it is perched.

Berkley Springs Castle West Virgina

Built by 100 German masons over 6 years, the 9,300 square foot castle is constructed of local silica sandstone, painstakingly brought to the property by horse and carriage in the Guilded Age. The castle has been modernized over the years while retaining its classic charm, including a lavish ballroom complete with 2 stone fireplaces and grand staircase. With a dungeon tucked into a secret passageway, gargoyles providing stony vigilance, steep topography maximizing natural defense, and a turreted rooftop with battlements and a spectacular view, the castle hearkens back to European traditions.

The Thousand Islands Bridge Authority (TIBA) welcomes you to tour Boldt Castle to explore and experience an attraction like no other. Construction began on Boldt Castle in 1900 at the bidding of millionaire hotel magnate George C. Boldt as a tribute to his beloved wife Louise. Boldt Castle was designed as their summer dream home. A castle rivaling those of Europe, built on the St. Lawrence River, in the heart of the 1000 Islands. However it was not to be, Mrs. Boldt passed away suddenly just months before the completion of the castle. Mr. Boldt was inconsolable and immediately stopped all construction on Heart Island, leaving the property vacant for over seventy years…

Castello Di Amaroso

Castello di Amorosa is the realization of an all-consuming passion. Fourth generation winemaker Dario Sattui built an authentically styled 13th century Tuscan castle winery to honor his Italian heritage and deep love for medieval architecture.

But it all started with wine.

Dario is the great grandson of pioneering vintner Vittorio Sattui, an Italian immigrant who founded St. Helena Wine Cellars in 1885. The Sattui family lived at the winery, even after Prohibition closed the business in 1920. Dario was always fascinated by the stories and photos of the old winery. As a child, he would play in the winery's underground cellars and dream of reviving the family business

Castle of El Cid

The castle, which was built in the 15th century and sits on a hill commanding the plain of the river Henares, is an example of a fine late medieval fortification. The castle was built on the foundations of a fortress that dated back to the Caliphate period. It is, therefore, possible to argue that Jadraque, whose etymology is Arabic, was part of the defensive terrains that were part of the Middle March, which also included Atienza or Sigüenza. The castle is known as ‘Castle of El Cid’ because it was owned by Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar y Mendoza, the son of Cardenal Mendoza and became the first Count of Cid, a title of nobility granted by the Catholic kings towards the end of the 15th century. The castle, which has a rectangular base, occupies the whole area of the hill. The castle entrance is flanked by two solid semi-cylindrical turrets. The castle walls lack windows and openings and the complex does not have a torre del Homenaje. Only closing walls and middle walls have crenels.

Bettendorf Castle

Overlooking the town of Fox River Grove offers spectacular views, dozens of magnificent mature oak trees, unsurpassed landscapes & natural beauty of the land. This fortress includes towers, turrets, a moat, a drawbridge, a dungeon, fountains, and spacious yards that each offer a unique view of the castle.

In 1931, Theodore “Teddy” Bettendorf immigrated to America from Luxembourg. Overlooking the town of Fox River Grove, he began building a castle that took over 36 years of dedication and hard work. As a boy, Teddy learned his masonry skills from watching a historic castle being rebuilt in his hometown of Vianden, Luxembourg. In his building of the castle, he collected stones from such places as local farmers’ fields, stone quarries, and the excavation of Lake Julian. In addition to the castle itself, there is a water-filled moat, a wishing well, a working drawbridge, an outside bathroom and sink, an outdoor fireplace, an observation tower,  and a courtyard. Since its completion, the Bettendorf Castle has been used as a honeymoon suite, for the filming of commercials, various civic events, and as a private residence.

Chateau La Roche

The Historic Loveland Castle & Museum Chateau Laroche was built as an expression and reminder of the simple strength and rugged grandeur of the mighty men who lived when Knighthood was in flower. It was their knightly zeal for honor, valor, and manly purity that lifted mankind out of the moral midnight of the dark ages and started it towards the gray dawn of human hope. Present human decadence proves a need for similar action. Already the ancient organization of Knights has been re-activated to save society. Any man of high ideas who wish to help save civilization is invited to become a member of the Knights of the Golden Trail, whose only vows are the Ten Commandments. Chateau Laroche is the World headquarters and Residence of the K.O.G.T.
